CPV modules have optics that are the direct component of incoming light. It must be oriented properly in order to maximize energy collection. Tracking systems in CPV modules orient the optics in such a way that the PV collector has incoming light focused onto it. CPV modules can focus on either one or two dimensions: One dimension must be tracked normal to the sun in one axis whereas in two dimensions, it must be tracked in two axes.

Reflective and refractive based concentrator systems are used with Concentrated PV Trackers. The technologies used in these systems range from crystalline silicon based photovoltaic receivers to germanium based triple junction receivers.
